About Teak

Tectona Grandis, otherwise known as Teak is a deciduous tree native to South and Southeast Asia. Teak is a tropical hardwood that grows over 130 feet tall and has a trunk diameter of around 5 feet.

Teak is a hard, heavy, and strong wood that has become well-known for its durability. The natural oils of the teak tree prevent the wood from warping and cracking and acts as a natural preservative which increases its resistance to insects, fungus, borers, rot, and moisture damage.

Due to the hardwood’s elasticity, solid fiber making, and ability to evade rust and corrosion, teak has become the “king of timber.” It is widely used in boat construction, indoor and outdoor furniture as well as fine furniture displaying its beautiful and unique properties.

Teak has a history of being a strong investment and with the increase of popularity of teak, demand trends continue to grow and strengthen. As the global supply dwindles, Panama, along with other countries in Central and South America and Africa and has introduced, developed, and managed teak plantations. Forest Teak aims to combine sustainable growth with a high-yield investment.

Teak Projects in Panama

We have more than 20 lots for reforestation projects in Darien, and more lots available in Coronado and Chepo.

The initial investment in our packages is broken down into 90% payment for the land and trees and 10% for the annual maintenance fee for a period of 8 years paid upfront.

Forest Teak anticipates thinning at ages 4, 8, 15, 18, and the final harvest at age 25, depending on market conditions. The year may change accordingly to the advisement of our forestry management team.

Investors will receive the net thinning and harvest proceeds after a 20% management fee is deducted. 5 hectares of land yield between 900 – 1000 cubic meters of mature teak, calculated using the Hoppus Formula.

Reforestation: Doing your Part

AIR

Trees act as carbon sinks and absorb carbon dioxide and harmful pollutants from the air and release clean oxygen. This can help reduce the effects of climate change and improve the quality of the air we breathe.

Water

Trees have an intricate infiltration system where rain water is captured and absorbed through their roots. This helps reduce the rate of water absorption into the soil and thus preventing soil erosion, waterslides and flooding.

Biodiversity

The loss of trees threaten the survival of many different species of animals, and has even lead to extinction of some. Trees provide shelter and food and with the implementation of forestry projects, natural habitats are restored to hundreds of different species of animals.

Social Impact

Reforestation projects provide jobs to local communities, giving them the education, tools and management to improve their livelihoods and allowing their communities to grow.
